Students engage with the community in exercise referrals

581608_442416382501393_124264169_nHART team members Geoff Middleton and Hannah Henderson have recently completed supervising Undergraduate BSc (hons) Sport and Exercise Science students who have completed work with exercise referral patients with provider services in Lincoln city (YMCA) and at Mablethorpe (East Lindsey Council). The third year students were required to support a client with a low risk health complication (i.e. diabetes, obesity, musculoskeletal disorder etc.). By working with the providers on a placement, students are exposed to the real-life scenario of screening, assessment and the exercise training environment. Students also learn how to research and prescribe a suitable activity programme for the client to follow and support them clients through the process for approximately 8-12weeks. On completion of the placement, students evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the exercise programme pre- and post-intervention and write a report documenting the activities as a case-study for assessment.
